2020 has been an unprecedent year for all of us. all of my booked weddings were put on hold, rescheduled for less contagious days. while I was still fortunate to be able to 2nd shoot weddings for 2 of my favorite local photographers, lisa of lisa frechette photography[thank you for letting me share some of your wedding images below] + mia of mia campopiano photography, I am absolutely longing to photograph my own weddings again [fingers crossed 2021].
thankfully my year was filled with personal art projects at thecollaborative02885 as well as so many lovely family portrait sessions. oh, you special lovely families, the most enjoyable time I have had masked has been photographing you! thank you thank you thank you!
I even did some pivoting [is this the most hated word of 2020?] with some real estate, restaurant + product photography in order to keep my creative brain working + to try + stay off unemployment.
a huge highlight from this year was the time I spent volunteering at moonrose farm through their csa work share program. while I only have my crappy phone photos [not shared here] from my time there, the memories + life lessons I learned there will never fade:
shop local. support your farmers. be kind. when in doubt get your hands dirty. you can actually eat hard work [that is if you are a farmer or gardener]. we are all connected. tomato hornworms are fascinating + gross.

my 2019 new year’s chalkboard held this mantra; “sort out your own shit”. boy, did this year come with a lot of shit to sort. it started with saying goodbye to our 16 year old shiba inu, rocco + only picked up steam with my husband’s cancer diagnosis in may. in the thick of it, it seemed like a year marked only by trips to boston, medication schedules, hospital + doctor visits. funny how these yearend reviews make me realize it was so much more than that. it was a year of love, generosity, travel, gardening, family vacations, portraits, weddings, laughter and self reflection.
i came across this post on you are luminous’ instagram account + it stopped me in my tracks:
“what if you were actually very blessed because you got to experience something hard that you now have a depth and understanding, an awareness, an overcoming and strength that not all human beings get the opportunity to receive.”
even amongst all the shit sorting, there can be gratitude. i do feel blessed. i still falter, absolutely, but this year has taught me to be compassionate, to accept the generosity of strangers, to remember that you have no idea what someone might be going through. be gentle with each other + with yourself. i am learning to breathe through the chaos + i do believe that all i have experienced in 2019 has forever changed the way I live, the way I see, and ultimately it will change the way I photograph.
i know i know it’s February + a little late to get out a year in review post but i am doing it anyway. call me a rebel or a procrastinator but really don’t call me, i kinda hate the phone. i think i may say it every year but really i mean it every year, i am so grateful for the couples who trust me to tell their wedding stories. that invite me into their lives + allow me to document their beginnings as a married couple. i got to revisit some venue favorites such as glen manor house, griffin museum of photography, the poppensett inn + explore some new ones as well; saltwater farm vineyard, the onyx room, + courageous sailingto name just a few. a huge thank you to lisa frechette photography for letting me share some images from the weddings I shot with her this year.
